Tabbitha’s Lineup

Hobby: Don’t Wreath Me Hangin’!

There’s nothing I love more than the holiday season, and jumping into the decorating process is always my favorite part! Creating beautiful, custom wreaths for my family and friends has become my absolute favorite Christmas tradition. It’s such a relaxing and fun DIY activity—I love putting on a cozy movie or show and getting lost in the process of shaping the perfect design. Last year, I had extra fun creating this festive piece specifically for my amazing, gnome-loving best friend! Seeing the finished, personalized product ready for gifting is truly the best part of the holidays.

Travel:

This year, our family is excited to be heading back home to Illinois for the holidays, eager to visit with family and friends. There’s something truly special about Chicago; it’s one of those places that wraps you in a warm embrace and instantly feels like home, no matter how much time has passed since your last visit. Coupled with the crisp winter weather and the city’s signature, over-the-top holiday decorations, being there makes you feel like you’ve stepped right into the middle of a classic Christmas movie. The whole city sparkles with an almost cinematic, unforgettable festive magic.

Entertainment:

Every holiday season, we make sure to cuddle up and watch all of our favorite Christmas classics, but the real fun lies in discovering a fantastic new addition to the lineup. Last year, we struck gold with a movie called Dashing through the Snow, which delivers a truly fun and unexpected twist on the typical holiday fare.

Traditions:

One of our absolute favorite ways to bring in the holiday season is by visiting Illuminations at Botanica every year. This tradition provides the perfect opportunity to get out of the house, enjoy the crisp winter air, and immerse ourselves in the breathtaking display of holiday lights. Each year, Botanica manages to outdo themselves; there’s always something brand new—a stunning new installation or a clever lighting design—that captivates us and reminds us of the magic of the season. It truly is a spectacular way to create lasting holiday memories.

Show/Music:

If you are looking for high-quality children’s programming, look no further! The beloved classic picture book, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, has been beautifully adapted into an Amazon Prime Original that is an amazing watch with your children. It captures the simple, warm wonder of the book, making it a wonderful way to celebrate the magic of winter. The show also features a stunning, unexpected score “Snowy Day,” performed by the renowned group Boyz II Men. Their signature, flawless harmony, making it a treat for parents and kids alike.

The Lineup: Shane

The lineup of what the DPL staff have been up to lately.

Shane’s Lineup

Books: H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos

If you have seen and recognized my upper arm tattoos, you won’t be shocked to learn that I am a huge H. P. Lovecraft fan. I’ve been reading through his short stories when I can, starting with the Cthulhu Mythos. I really like how the Cthulhu Mythos stories are all individual stories, but relate to each other in some way.  I love the dark, gritty atmosphere and twist endings that really make you think. It’s also really fun to read the original stories that so many books, movies, and shows are inspired by even now.

Vacation: Redwoods, California

I recently returned from a family vacation to Northwest California. My older sister and I road tripped there and back, which was a fun bonding experience by itself. The trip was awesome, I saw (and touched) the ocean for the very first time, we did a lot of hiking, and saw so many big, beautiful, ancient trees. I was most excited by seeing the banana slugs though. We rented a remote house with a killer view of the ocean. We also spent half a day in Crescent City and ate a delicious meal at SeaQuake Brewing.

Hobby: Music & Concerts

I’ve been a rock music fan my whole life (thanks mom and dad) and love going to concerts to see a live performance when I can. Some favorites are Creeper, Twin Temple, Avatar, Hollywood Undead, Judas Priest, Plain White T’s, and Ghost (seeing them again soon!). Usually I go with my twin sister and her husband, but I’ve also gone with my parents to some. Seeing live music is always a special memory no matter how small or big the band is.

Games: Carcassone

I am a huge board game nerd and I own over 60 games. I love a game that is different every time you play, and Carcassone has that endless replayability to me. To me, it is simple to learn but still challenging and competitive (if you it to be). Thanks to my loved ones and their gifts, I own 9 out of 12 of the main expansion packs. This makes it even more customizable because we can pick and choose which packs to include when we play.

Hobby: Fiber Arts

I have always been someone who loved to “make things” but I never felt creative enough to do art. I taught myself knitting around 10 years ago and crochet about 2 years ago (still definitely learning that one). I love knitting and crochet because I enjoy following a pattern and watching it come together, it is very satisfying. It also totally opens up the real of gift-giving. If someone devotes the time to knit/crochet/sew you something, you should feel very special. I have made scarfs, hats, a bag, figures, and other small things. I am currently working on a duster robe for myself and have about half dozen other projects on my mind. The picture is of a spider scarf I made in 2022 while I was recovering from surgery. Very fun project!

July’s Spread –

Genre: Historical, Humor, Fiction

Version 1.0.0

Summary:
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.
But like science, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo.

Summary:
– Maya Killgore is twenty-three and still in the process of figuring out her life.
– Conor Harkness is thirty-eight, and Maya cannot stop thinking about him.
It’s such a cliché, it almost makes her heart implode: older man and younger woman; successful biotech guy and struggling grad student; brother’s best friend and the girl he never even knew existed. As Conor loves to remind her, the power dynamic is too imbalanced. Any relationship between them would be problematic in too many ways to count, and Maya should just get over him. After all, he has made it clear that he wants her gone from his life. But not everything is as it seems—and clichés sometimes become plot twists.

Summary:
Rabbits is a mysterious alternate reality game so vast it uses our global reality as its canvas. Since the game first started in 1959, ten iterations have appeared and nine winners have been declared. Their identities are unknown. So is their reward, which is whispered to be NSA or CIA recruitment, vast wealth, immortality, or perhaps even the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe itself. But the deeper you get, the more deadly the game becomes. Players have died in the past—and the body count is rising.
And now the eleventh round is about to begin. Enter K—a Rabbits obsessive who has been trying to find a way into the game for years. That path opens when K is approached by billionaire Alan Scarpio, the alleged winner of the sixth iteration. Scarpio says that something has gone wrong with the game and that K needs to fix it before Eleven starts or the whole world will pay the price.
Five days later, Scarpio is declared missing. Two weeks after that, K blows the deadline and Eleven begins. And suddenly, the fate of the entire universe is at stake.

My Rating:

The Lineup: Emily B.

The lineup of what the DPL staff have been up to lately.

Emily’s Lineup

TV Show: The Clone Wars

I used to love watching the original Star Wars movies with my dad growing up, and over time that love for Star Wars never dissipated. A few years back, a good friend of mine introduced me to The Clone Wars series and after a LOT of convincing, I finally watched it. It is now my favorite series, and I find myself re-watching it every so often. It gives an amazing insight into the storyline before Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. If you’re looking for a good series to binge- that should be your starting place.

Availabe to check out here or it is currently streaming on Disney+.

Music

Music is a very big part of my life; for every song, I have a story attached to it. Right now, my current favorites are
Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen– more specifically, the song 28 by Zach Bryan and I Got Better by Morgan Wallen. Their two songs that touch on growing up and moving on, and being in my early 20’s, really resonate with me. With that being said, my music tastes vary dramatically. I’m very big on the 80’s, country, alternative, and musicals! Radiohead and Artemas are also two of my current favorites.

Personal Interests

I love to travel, I always have. Whether it’s out of the state, out of the country, or simply just out of town- I love to travel. There is always something new to see and something new to experience. The craziest place I’ve been was Dubai with my mom and my most recent trip was to Branson. To say I fell in love with the scenery is an understatement; the nature there is beautiful. However, my favorite part of traveling is the drive and the stops at random gas stations in the middle of nowhere.

Hobbies

I’m a very girly girl, so my hobbies usually center around shopping, tanning, lashes and doing my nails. A few years back I graduated from cosmetology school with my esthetician license, so all things beauty are right up my alley. I’ve also been getting more into coloring, making jewelry, and hopefully scrapbooking soon! I do love karaoke as well- nothing beats getting to sing your heart out!

Video Games

“We fight not so that the world will remember us, but so that there will be a world to remember.”
– Capt. Price (Call of Duty)

I don’t do a lot of gaming, but if I do, it’s usually Call of Duty. I love the storyline and the depth of it; it also helps that the main characters are easy on the eyes. I love all of the COD games, but Modern Warfare III is my favorite. It’s gripping, intense, and fast-paced, all the things needed to keep me entertained. I also really enjoy Halo, Animal Crossing, and Mouthwashing!

Summary:
When Margot gets fired from her job on the same day she meets Oliver again, her life becomes a veritable mess. Her dream career is dying right before her eyes, and Oliver thinks she’s interested in only one thing: a repeat of the hot make out session they had three years ago so she can get him out of her system. And maybe that is all she wants from him, because she and Oliver are definitely not compatible—he doesn’t hit the snooze button, he runs five miles every morning, he reads nonfiction, and worst of all, she didn’t meet him in cute way!
But in her scramble to keep her dream career alive, by opening her own agency, Oliver is there with his golden retriever energy, more steady and helpful than any man she’s ever dated. Just when she thinks she’s overcome her app bias, she realizes that maybe it’s not her who’s holding back, but him. And his reasons are more than she bargained for.

Summary:
Tess Bright just scored her dream role starring in an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. It’s not just the role of a lifetime, but it’s also her last chance to prove herself as a serious actress (no easy feat after being fired from her last TV gig) and more importantly, it’s her opportunity to honor her mom, who was the biggest fan of Jane Austen ever.
Hugh is a type-A, no-nonsense, Royal Academy prodigy, whereas Tess is big-hearted, a little reckless, and admittedly, kind of a mess. But the film needs chemistry—and Tess’s career depends on it.

Sparks fly, but not in the way Tess hoped, when an electrical accident sends the two feuding co-stars back in time to Jane Austen’s era. 200 years in the past with only each other to rely on, Tess and Hugh need to ad-lib their way through the Regency period in order to make it back home, and hopefully not screw up history along the way.

Their powers are stronger, more thrilling, the closer they get—not that they can risk getting attached. May’s Spread –

Genre: Contemporary, Women’s Fiction, Romance-ish

Summary:
Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud. And they’re both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years—or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives. Tragic heiress, former tabloid princess, and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century.

But the problem is, Margaret is only giving each of them pieces of her story. Pieces they can’t swap to put together because of an ironclad NDA and an inconvenient yearning pulsing between them every time they’re in the same room. And it’s becoming abundantly clear that their story—just like the tale Margaret’s spinning—could be a mystery, tragedy, or love ballad…depending on who’s telling it.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Summary:
Anna has two rules for the annual Pace family destination vacations: Tread lightly and survive.

It isn’t easy when she’s the only one in the family who doesn’t quite fit in. Her twin brother, Benny, goes with the flow so much he’s practically dissolved, and her older sister, Nicole, is so used to everyone—including her blandly docile husband and two kids—falling in line that Anna often ends up in trouble for simply asking a question. Mom seizes every opportunity to question her life choices, and Dad, when not reminding everyone who paid for this vacation, just wants some peace and quiet.
The gorgeous, remote villa in tiny Monteperso seems like a perfect place to endure so much family togetherness, until things start going off the rails—the strange noises at night, the unsettling warnings from the local villagers, and the dark, violent past of the villa itself.

The Lineup: Hayden

The lineup of what the DPL staff have been up to lately.

Hayden’s Lineup

TV Show: Friends

Last month I watched all 10 seasons of Friends. After it being recommended to me for years, I finally decided to watch it. The earliest seasons were my favorite, but I enjoyed having the show playing in the background while completing schoolwork.

Availabe to check out here or it is currently streaming on Max.

Pet: Harley

Harley is my two-year-old cat. We found him when he was very little stuck under our grandfather’s truck, and we took him in. He loves sleeping in front of the heater and playing with dog food on the tile floor. During the summer, he will chase wasps and other bugs that get into our house.  Harley is one of my first pets and I absolutely adore him.

Hobby: Board Games

One of my all-time favorite hobbies is playing many different board games. Currently my favorite game is Settlers of Catan. While playing we all get pretty competitive, but I find that has made the games much more fun. For many games, we have come up with house rules after playing for a while and that has been making each game feel fresh and new.

School: Accounting

I have been studying accounting for a few years now. I started taking classes for accounting in high school here in Derby. I liked doing accounting and math and I was pretty good at it, so I decided to start studying accounting in college.

Books: Caraval Trilogy by Stephanie Garber

I recently reread the Caraval series. I first read the books in high school, and I really loved the world that Garber built. The books are a little different than what I normally read, but I really enjoyed the magic and mystery throughout the whole of the trilogy.
You can check out Caraval and other Stephanie Garber novels here on Libby!
