NOTICE: Passport processing service at the Derby Public Library has been suspended while our library is closed to the public. The U.S. Department of State has suspended expedited service of passports. Passport processing for new passports at open facilities (in our area, it's limited to post offices for now) is taking 6-8 weeks.
The Derby Public Library has been designated an official Passport Acceptance Agency by the U.S. Department of State. Library staff members are available to accept passport applications seven days a week.
All necessary passport application forms are available at the library, and some forms must be filled out prior to submitting the application. Those who would like to apply for a passport must provide passport photos at the time they apply.
While the library does not offer photo service, the Walgreens store in Derby (corner of Madison and K-15), the UPS store in Derby, and Walmart offer passport photo service.
The library accepts all passport applications on a walk-in basis only. We do not make appointments.
Passport hours at the library are:
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday: 1 to 4 p.m.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to process each passport application, so if you have multiple people coming with applications, please plan accordingly. Saturdays tend to be our busiest day with passport applications, so if you can come earlier in the day, you are less likely to have to wait as long. Every person who is applying for a passport MUST be present with their application. This includes children.
