Library Branch at Oaklawn Activity Center

The branch of the Derby Public Library at the Oaklawn Activity Center is a collaboration between the library, the OAC and the Derby Recreation Commission. The branch was created to allow families in the Oaklawn area greater access to books.

The library branch is in the computer lab of the OAC and users do not have to be members of the OAC to use the branch services or to check items out. A library card is required if users wish to check out materials. There are about 1,000 books in the OAC branch, including a selection of Spanish-language materials.

OAC users may place items at the Derby Public Library or one of the KanShare consortium member libraries on hold, to be transferred to the OAC branch. Deliveries will be made up to three times a week for items that have been placed on hold to be picked up at the OAC.

If an OAC user doesn't have a Derby Public Library card, the staff at the OAC can get them signed up so they can check items out immediately.

The OAC uses a self-checkout system, and OAC staff members help monitor the branch. There is a library catalog computer available in the branch as well, which allows users to search for items and place them on hold if they are not available at the OAC.
