Derby Public Library > Kids & Teens > Teens
Derby Public Library has a vibrant and lively dedicated Teen Scene that's a great place to hang out during the summer months! The area features computers for public use, plenty of comfortable seating, and a selection of board games and card games for teens to use in-house.
Teen Summer Reading Program
Incoming 6th-12th grade teens can read for 12 hours to earn summer reading prizes! All participants will receive a reading log that allows them to track the book/s of their choice and the length of time they read per sitting. When that time totals 12 hours, teens can return the reading log at the Youth Services Desk to earn the following prizes:
- A brand new book
- Rock River Rapids Pass
- Coupon from Derby Bowl for 3 free games
- Exploration Place Pass
- Entry into our grand prize drawing for a professional telescope
All reading logs are due by Sunday, July 28 at 5PM
Actors, writers, filmmakers, and techies are welcome to join this summer's film production crew and make an original sci-fi or fantasy-inspired short film. Teens will learn writing techniques, how to use camera equipment and green screen technology, and how to work as a team. Moviecraft is an incredible leadership and skills-training opportunity for your 6th-12th grader!
This program is a seven week workshop occuring on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm. Teens must be able to attend at least five of the seven sessions.
Every Tuesday from 4PM - 5PM in Community Room - No Registration Required!
