Christmas at the Library

Santa Letters - Write a letter to Santa! Pick up a letter template at the library or print one using the pdf here. When you're finished just drop it off with library staff and we will send it to the North Pole for you! Please return your letters by 7 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2020 in order to get it to Santa in time for Christmas.

Coloring Pages - Get in the holiday spirit with these fun coloring pages!

Storytimes/Crafts - Join Miss Trisha on Facebook for Virtual Storytime. On Dec. 2 and 9 at 10 a.m. we will have special winter themed stories, activities and songs. View our at-home guides for links to books, activities and other resources to enhance your storytime experience. Activity kits are available at the drive thru weekly until Dec. 12.

Stories with Santa - Santa is joining us all the way from the North Pole! Go to our Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channel to watch storytimes with Santa and Mrs. Claus. We also have another special guest that will bring you important updates weekly in December.

Jane & Peppermint - Jane and Peppermint will be back at the library in December! Watch our social media to keep up on their shenanigans.

Mystery Challenge - For children, families, teens and adults, join this digital game to save Christmas! South Pole Sam has been wreaking havoc in Santa's Village and it's up to you to fix the holiday mess. Complete the game, and enter to win one of three grand prizes.

*Starts December 6th. Entries are due by December 20th.*

Stockings - Our Youth Services department has created holiday stockings for kids and teens of all ages. Pick up a stocking filled with age appropriate crafts and books at our drive thru Dec. 14-19. *Quantities are limited.

Family Fun Challenge - The final Family Fun Challenge of 2020 is December 6-12. Make cards for friends and family, take a picture of your family’s cards, and then post it on the event on the Derby Library Facebook page. You will be entered to win 1 of 6 Party Packs worth $75/pack!

Christmas Events in Derby

Operation Holiday - Operation Holiday Derby assists families in the Derby school district during the holiday season.  You can help by placing a donation in our donation box at the library, adopting a family or giving a donation. The library also has the annual Hat & Mitten Tree where you can attach hats, mittens, socks and scarves to help families in need. Donations will be picked up December 2nd. For more information, email cochair@derbyoperationholiday.com

Drive-Thru Christmas - Pile your family in the car for a night of treats and holiday lights. We will hand out treats and a map of the Holiday Lights Tour as you drive through. Give a big wave to Santa and say hi to your Derby firefighters wearing masks. You might even see a few of your favorite Derby mascots there.

Please enter Bulldog Drive (west side of the fire station) from eastbound Madison Avenue. Left turns will not be allowed. We hope to see you there!

Holiday Lights Tour & Contest-The City of Derby is holding a Holiday Lights Tour & Contest in December. Plan now to create the best display and win a prize!

You may participate in the tour only or the tour and contest. We invite residents and businesses to participate. Decorate your yard, house, business or storefront. Judges will pick their favorite displays, and the public will vote for the People’s Choice prize on Facebook.

Entry deadline is Nov. 30. Anyone who lives in the Derby city limits or owns a business in the city limits is eligible to participate. Sign up at DerbyKS.com/holidaylights. It’s free!

Five categories: traditional, most creative, professionally installed, business/shopping center, and neighborhood (HOA/neighborhood street).
